Real lives, real change

One widow's story

When she lost her husband in 2020, a 52-year-old widow was left to raise four children on her own. Financial hardship even forced her family to live apart — yet she refused to give up, teaching at a local secondary school to keep hope alive for her children.

Widows like her are why we exist. We provide food and healthcare, keep their children in school, and equip them with the skills to rebuild — restoring dignity, one widow at a time.

Mrs. Florence's Testimonial (Education Support – 2022)

In 2022, I was struggling to keep my children in school after losing my husband. Paying their school fees felt impossible, and I feared they would have to drop out. But the Gritty Widows Foundation stepped in and paid those fees. The relief I felt that day cannot be described — it was as if a heavy burden was lifted. You gave me hope when I had almost given up. My children are still learning today because of your kindness, and I will never forget it.

Mrs. Esther Samuel's Testimonial (Business & Outreach Support)

I have been privileged to attend two outreach programs organized by the Gritty Widows Foundation. At each one, I felt seen, encouraged, and uplifted. Beyond that, I received a stipend of ₦50,000 to support my small drinks business. That support came just when I needed it most — it helped me grow my business and provide for my family. The Foundation didn't just give me money, they gave me strength to keep moving forward. I am deeply grateful.

Yes, while widows remain our central focus, Gritty Widows Foundation also supports their families—especially the children and dependents they care for. Our initiatives are designed to restore dignity, stability, and long-term hope to the entire household. Some of our extended campaigns include:
  • 🎒 Back to School Drive – supporting the education of children from widowed households by providing school supplies, fees, and mentorship.
  • 🏥 Health Access Drive – ensuring widows and their families receive critical healthcare, screenings, and affordable HMO coverage.
  • 🍲 Family Relief Support – offering food aid and essentials to ease the burden on widowed mothers caring for their children alone.

We’re committed to holistic care—because when widows thrive, so do their families.
